Jackalopes Acquire Brown from USHL

Odessa, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes have acquired Matt Brown from the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL on Wednesday. The move was made to fill the open spot on the Jackalopes roster following a trade on Tuesday that sent Chad Merrell back to his former team, the Kanata Lasers of the CCHL.

“After speaking with Coach Gatto a few times, I can tell that he is very enthusiastic about the game,” states Brown. “I look forward to learning from him.”

Brown, a native of Wood Ridge, New Jersey was drafted by the Jackalopes in the fourth round of the 2017 NAHL Draft. He was also drafted in the 10th round of the USHL Draft by Dubuque and made the team out of camp.

Last season, Brown played for the New Jersey Rockets in the EHL, racking up 31 goals and adding 20 assists (31-20-51) in only 44 games last season. This year, Brown only dressed for five games and didn’t get a point in Dubuque.

“Being in Dubuque reinforced the importance of having a consistent work ethic,” says Brown. “You play how you practice”

After a terrific 2016-17 season, the ’99 birth year committed to University of Massachusetts – Lowell, where the Jackalopes have sent greats like Connor Hellebuyck and Kenny Hausinger before.

Brown will jump right into the lineup and should have an immediate impact for the Jackalopes this weekend in Shreveport.

“He’s lightning fast. He’s got a really high-end hockey sense and should be able to consistently make plays at this level,” says Associate Head Coach Cody Campbell. “As well, he has a knack for scoring goals his entire life. We look forward to him having a good offensive presence for us.”
