Corpus Christi, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes (4-2-0-0) showed their resilience as they came back to take out the Corpus Christi IceRays (1-4-0-2) in the third period of Friday night’s affair. The game took place at the American Bank Center for the IceRays’ home opener.
Brett Epp had another astounding game, saving 35 of 36 shots along the way to the victory. Jackalopes goals came from Lucas Andersson and Zac Herrmann, with the game-tier in the third, and the game-winner in overtime.
A game that was taken over by goaltenders, the first goal of the game was scored by the IceRays’ Blake Coffey at the 14:50 mark of the second period. Epp was able to save 24 shots before that point.
The last time Odessa entered the third period trailing a team, they put up three goals. This time, it would only take one to force the overtime. Zac Herrmann led the rush all the way to the end line before passing one to Andersson at the right point for him to lay in past the IceRays’ Cam Burggrabe through traffic.
Zac Herrmann assisted on the first goal, but wanted one of his own. On a power play in overtime, Herrmann picked up the puck at center ice and went coast-to-coast for the game-winner. His initial shot was blocked, but the rebound fell perfectly for him to fire another quick shot on net only 3:04 into the overtime period for the Odessa win.
Burggrabe made 37 saves on the night, while taking the loss after two late Jackalopes goals.
Herrmann now has 10 points on the season through only six games after racking up two more points in tonight’s matchup.
The Jacks will be back at it tomorrow night for the final game of the weekend against the IceRays. Puck drop will be at 7:05 pm as the Jacks look to make it five straight.
