Alger, Beranek, Brown, Kreutzer, and Murray all have muti-point games in Jacks second consecutive victory

BLAINE, MINNESOTA – After winning their first contest since January 25th, 2013, the Odessa Jackalopes were looking to win back to back games for the first time since last season’s NAHL Showcase in which they beat Coulee Region and Kenai River on September 14th and 15th of 2012. Standing in the Jackalopes way would be the Midwest’s Division Minnesota Magicians. The Magicians had not lost a game in regulation coming in to this afternoon’s matchup, going 2-0-1 through the first three days of the Showcase.

Minnesota got started early in this one. Matt Colford scored his first of two in the game at 1:54 of the first period. Travis Koepke snuck behind the Jackalopes defense and got a good shot off on Yoshi Kuroiwa, who made the stop. Will Johnson corralled the rebound and fed Colford on the weak side. Minnesota grabbed a two goal lead at 9:48 when Derick Kuchera found his way in to the slot area and took a pass from Colin Hernon. Kuchera slipped the puck underneath the pads of Kuroiwa and Jacks trailed 2-0 after one period.

In the second, the Jacks cut the Magicians lead to one on Derek Brown’s 2nd goal of the season at 1:52. Brown took the puck behind the net, slammed on the breaks, and stuffed it in on the short side post. Brown’s goal would be the only goal for either side in the period and the Jacks trailed 2-1 going into the final frame.

The Jacks tied the game 1:41 into the third on Razmuz Waxin-Engback’s first goal of the season. Jake Kreutzer got a pass from Austin Murray and found Waxin- Engback all alone in front of the Magician’s net. After a Andrew McLean penalty, the lead turned hands again as Matt Colford scored his second goal of the game at 11:47. Colford slid a shot from a sharp angle under the left pad of Yoshi Kuroiwa. The Jacks would pull even once more on Chad Guderian’s first goal of the season. Guderian’s shot from the right wing went in at 15:07. Austin Murray and Matt Beranek picked up their second assists of the game on the play. When Cody Milligan of the Magicians took a penalty with under four minutes to go, Lukas Laub scored his second goal of the season to give the Jacks their first lead of the hockey game at 4-3. Laub shot the puck towards the goal from the right side and the puck went in the net after it was redirected off of a Magicians defenseman. Roseville, MN native Robb Stautz added an empty netter and the Jacks took the finale of the NAHL Showcase, 5-3.

The Jacks next contest will be Friday September 27th from the Amarillo Civic Center in Amarillo, TX at 7:05PM. You can hear the game live on Classic Rock 102.1 KFZX or watch live on FASTHockey.
