ODESSA, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes have announced that Evan Orr will serve as the team captain for the 2020-21 season.
Orr, a native of Shelby Township, Michigan, played most of last season with the Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League. Before that, Orr played in the NAHL with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights. He had 15 points or more in both seasons. Orr is currently committed to play Division I college hockey with the Michigan Tech Huskies.
“Evan is a player that plays with confidence, has demonstrated strong character, and has led each day through his actions. Anytime you can have a veteran player like Evan come in and be a strong player but also possess qualities that will make him a great teammate. Quiet confidence with a focus to chase his dreams. He is committed to Michigan Tech NCAA Div. I and has experience in the NAHL and BCHL,” said Jackalopes head coach Jason Fortier. “We feel by selecting our current leadership group and emphasizing what it means to be a mentor, role model, teacher and great teammate is something we will begin seeing the culture change in Odessa.”
In addition, Orr has demonstrated that he is willing to put the Jackalopes program and the team first. This has not gone unnoticed by the coaching staff.
“After a skate, Evan told me how much he was enjoying Odessa and how he truly believed in the vision of the program,” said Jackalopes assistant coach Nate Skidmore. “As a coaching staff, we believe that our leaders need to put the program before themselves. Evan has done that since day one and we know he will continue to do so throughout the duration of the season.”
The Jackalopes begin their season this weekend against the Wichita Falls Warriors on Saturday October 23. Face-off is set for 7:05PM.
