Cats shutout Jacks to take a 2-0 series lead

Wichita Falls, TX (April 16, 2016) – The Wichita Falls Wildcats scored three 1st period goals and Justin Kapelmaster stopped all 34 Jacks shots to earn a 5-0 win and a 2-0 series lead Saturday night at Kay Yeager Coliseum in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Aleksi Poikola (2) waited just 50 seconds into the 1st to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead after he buried a rebound of the right pad of Dean Shatzer. Nikita Litviak (2) potted his teams second goal on their fourth shot from the far wing to make it 2-0 at 2:44. Poikola (3) completed the three-goal 1st and ended Shatzer’s night with his second goal of the game and third of the playoffs on the power play at 8:08.

The offensive explosion continued in the 2nd. Nick Rosa (1) joined the party 32 seconds into the period when he beat Dean Shatzer after a Jacks defensive zone breakdown. Garrett VanWyhe extended the Cats lead to 5-0 at 5:18. Wichita Falls began the playoffs 4-for-4 on the power play but failed on three tries during the man advantage in the 2nd.

In the 3rd, the Wildcats sat on their 5-0 lead and the Jacks failed to beat Kapelmaster. Dean Shatzer took the loss stopping 8 shots. Kapelmaster earned his fifth total shutout by stopping 34 Odessa shots.
