Topeka, KS – Zach Heintz netted the game-winner in the second period as the Odessa Jackalopes (21-11-2-1) edged out the Topeka RoadRunners (11-22-1-2) 3-0 for the second game of the weekend. Alex Camarre played outstanding as he earned his 3rd shutout of the season.
Heintz started the scoring off with the eventual game-winner at the 9:18 mark of the second period. Ricky Carballo forced a turnover that Heintz carried right to left and fired off a wrister past the glove-side of Ryan O’Toole in his NAHL debut.
Two minutes later, James Crossman would add one more as he scored his third tally of the season. It only took 10 seconds on a power play for Peyton Frantti and Evan Somoza to find Crossman at the point. Crossman’s initial shot was blocked, but the second effort beats O’Toole.
Late in the third period with the Jacks on a power play, Peyton Frantti nets another, but the officials wave it off saying it was kicked in, keeping us at 2-0 after the first 40 minutes.
Nick Wilson tallied his fourth goal of the season as he took a slapshot off the board, and an odd bounce on a misplay from O’Toole ended up changing trajectory and went in for the three-goal lead. The miscue also ended the night for O’Toole as Sam Metcalf came on in relief.
On only the Jacks second shot at Metcalf on the night, Petr Miko tipped in his 9th of the year, leading to the eventual final goal of the night. Viktor Johansson fed one in front as Miko skated by and beat Metcalf 6:18 into the 3rd period.
Alex Camarre (12-4-0-1) earned his 3rd shutout of the year, making all 29 saves, as O’Toole finished with 18 stops, and Metcalf with nine more.
Noah Poindexter appeared in his 100th career NAHL and Jackalopes game as well. Poindexter is only the 10th played in the Jacks organization to surpass 100 games played in the red, white, and black.
The Jackalopes finish the weekend tomorrow night in Topeka with their 6th game in the past nine days. Catch all the action live on Classic Rock 102 and Hockey TV.
