Odessa, TX – One of the more dominating games by the Odessa Jackalopes (23-13-2-2) resulted in a 6-2 victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays (17-16-3-5). Alex Camarre backstopped the Jacks win, while six different goal scorers helped offensively.
A tripping penalty 1:11 into the contest brough about the Jacks first power play of the night, and they made it count. Lucas Andersson wound up for a slap shot and after a save from Corpus Christi’s Jake Acton, Christy swats it out of the air for the 1-0 lead.
Seven minutes later, it would be another power play goal as James Crossman fires one towards the net. With the help of Peyton Frantti, the Jacks tip it past Acton for the 2-goal lead halfway through the first period. Odessa dominated the first period in shots, 18-2.
The second period was much of the same for Odessa, as they kept scoring only 5:12 into the second period. Frantti saw Ricky Carballo crashing the backdoor, and as Carballo fought through a tie-up, he slapped one past Acton, giving the Jacks a 3-0 lead. Corpus Christi would retaliate with one of their own 4 ½ minutes after to cut the deficit to two.
Hoping to take the air out of Odessa, the Jacks thwarted the effort 47 seconds after. Crossman turns and fires a shot wide from the blue line, but Matt Brown puts a stick on the puck and redirects it over the right shoulder of Acton to regain the three-goal lead.
Corpus Christi would get one more with 7:45 remaining in regulation, but the Jacks wouldn’t go down without a fight. They netted two more in the third as Viktor Johansson fought for his fourth of the year to regain the three-goal lead. Johansson was followed up by Zach Heint’s 9th tally of the year, as he threw one in front and with a little help from the defense, made it a 6-2 Jackalopes victory.
Alex Camarre stonewalled 26 shots from the IceRays, while Acton could only stop 35 for the loss. The two teams return to action for the final match at the Ector County Coliseum this regular season.
