Bulls Outlast Jacks 3-1

Dec. 16, 2011

Third-period rally not enough for Odessa.

AMARILLO, TX– In the first leg of a two-game, home-and-home series, the Odessa Jackalopes fell to 0-5-0 on the year against the NAHL-best Amarillo Bulls, losing 3-1 on Friday at Amarillo Civic Center. With the loss, the Jackalopes fell to 10-14-4 on the season and with 24 points, now sit alone in fifth place in the NAHL’s South Division standings.

After a lengthy scoring drought for both teams to start the game, Amarillo forward Brooks Behling broke the ice with less than a minute remaining in the first period, to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead. Behling netted his NAHL-leading 25th goal of the season and second goal of the game early in the second period, a shorthanded, breakaway marker to stake Amarillo to a 2-0 advantage. With just six seconds remaining in the middle frame, Amarillo took a 3-0 lead on Ryan Taylor’s first goal of the season.

Aditya Karandikar buried an even-strength marker midway through the third period, his fourth goal of the season and sixth point, on feeds from Tyler Poulsen and TJ Sennott for Odessa’s only goal of the game. Connor Hellebuyck was impressive again, stopping 42 of the 45 shots he faced in his 14th consecutive start in net for the Jacks.

Both the Amarillo and Odessa power plays struggled mightily on Friday, going a combined 0/12 in the game. Next up for the Jackalopes, it’s a rematch with the NAHL’s top team, as Odessa plays its final pre-Christmas game Saturday at 7:05 pm against Amarillo at Ector County Coliseum.
