Deery stops 52 in first game of “rodeo road trip”.

AMARILLO, TX– In the ninth of twelve scheduled regular season meetings between the two teams this season and the first tilt of an eight-game road trip, the Odessa Jackalopes woes in the Texas panhandle continued Friday, as the Amarillo Bulls skated away with a 5-1 win at Cal Farley Coliseum at Amarillo Civic Center. With the loss, the Jacks fell to 5-24-2 overall this season and with 12 points, remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL’s South Division standings.

For the third straight game, the Jackalopes entered the second period locked in a scoreless tie, but Amarillo’s vaunted offense came to life early in the second, rattling off back-to-back-to-back goals from Connor Frey at 4:34, Garret Peterson less than 30 seconds later, and a Mike Davis shorthanded goal at 6:54 capped things off for the Bulls.

Amarillo picked up right where they left off in the third period as goals at 4:44 and 13:30 bookended a Matt Montemurro tally, assisted by Matt Volonnino and Josh Racek at 7:06 to establish the Bulls’ 5-1 margin of victory. While outshot heavily at 57-16, Odessa got a strong goaltending performance from Nick Deery, as the Lacrosse, Wisconsin native stood tall on 52 of the 57 Amarillo pucks that bounded his way.

Next up for the Jacks, the “rodeo road trip” rolls on with a pair of weekend games in Corpus Christi on January 4th and 5th, the first trip to the Texas gulf coast for the Jackalopes this season.

In 2012-13, the Odessa Jackalopes drop the puck on their second season as a member of the North American Hockey League.
