BULLS BEST JACKS 3-0 IN AMARILLO
Heinle stops single-game season high 43 in Odessa debut.
AMARILLO, TX– In the fourth of 12 scheduled regular season meetings between the two teams this season, the Odessa Jackalopes were held off the scoreboard in a 3-0 loss to the Amarillo Bulls at Cal Farley Coliseum in Amarillo on Saturday night. With the loss, the Jacks’ fourth in a row, Odessa fell to 4-14-2 on the season and with 10 points, remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL’s South Division standings.
An early power-play goal gave the Bulls the edge at 3:16 of the first as Tyler Deresky poked a rebound chance past new Odessa netminder Phil Heinle’s right pad on feeds from Matt Siekhaus and Mike Davis. After a long drought for both teams, Amarillo resumed the scoring just over one minute into the second period when, immediately following an unsuccessful man-advantage chance, Bulls captain John Rey hammered home a one-timer at even-strength for a 2-0 Amarillo lead.
With time dwindling in regulation, Bulls forward Carter Penzien tallied an empty-net marker from the neutral zone to salt away Amarillo’s fourth consecutive victory. In a game light on specialty-team heroics, the Bulls’ top-ten power-play connected just once on five chances, while the Jackalopes posted an 0/5 mark with the extra skater.
In his first appearance in net for the Jacks, Heinle turned in a stalwart performance, stopping 43 of the 45 shots he faced to claim a new Jackalopes single-game season high for saves in his debut NAHL performance.
Next up for the Jacks, it’s a six-game homestand beginning Friday at 7:05 pm as the Jackalopes play host to Amarillo at Ector County Coliseum.
In 2012-13, the Odessa Jackalopes drop the puck on their second season as a member of the North American Hockey League.
