BACK IN THE GAME AFTER INJURY, PALUMBO NETS SHOOTOUT WINNER

Jacks win fourth in a row versus the IceRays, 3-2.

 

ODESSA, TX – After a tough 4-2 loss to the Topeka RoadRunners, the Odessa Jackalopes were looking to get back to their winning ways on Friday night against the Corpus Christi IceRays. The Jackalopes came into the game Friday with a 3-1 record against the IceRays thus far and a record of 2-0 against the IceRays at the Ector County Coliseum. Friday night saw the return of defenseman Cody Slocum, who missed 26 games with an ankle injury.

 

In the first, the Jacks struck first on a power play goal from Razmuz Waxin-Engback at 6:38. All five players on the ice touched the puck on the play as Waxin-Engback was setup by Connor Chambers, who took a pass from Drew McLean. The assist for McLean was his first career junior hockey point. The Jacks lead 1-0 after one period.

 

In the second, Corpus Christi tied the game at 14:36 when Lucas Bennett slid the puck through the legs of Eric Hancock from the right circle. The Jacks and IceRays were tied at one going into the third.

 

The Jacks took a 2-1 advantage early in the third period on Derek Brown’s third goal of the season at 2:26 on a one-timer from the slot that beat Ben Myers on the left pad side. The IceRays would tie once again at 10:28 on a goal by Highlands Village native Nick Felan. The game would be tied at two through 60 minutes meaning the Jacks would go to overtime for the first time this season.

 

In overtime, the teams played a scoreless five minutes with the IceRays outshooting the Jacks, 3-2. The game would be decided in a shootout.

 

The Jacks got goals from Lukas Laub, Alex Alger, and Joey Palumboto win the shootout, 3-1 and the hockey game by a final score of 3-2.

 

Eric Hancock made 26 saves to earn his first victory of the season for Odessa.
