NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX— The Jackalopes had opportunities, but unlike last night they were unable to capitalize on them. Instead it was Lone Star who capitalized on three unanswered goals in the second period to defeat Odessa 3-0 in the final game of the weekend series between the two teams.
After a scoreless first period, the Jackalopes started the second period with 1:07 power play to start the second. Odessa, who went one-for-two last night on the man advantage, was unable to convert. Instead it would be the Brahmas who would convert, netting three unanswered goals all coming in a ten-minute span from the 6:31 mark of the second period to the final one coming at the 16:23 mark.
The Jackalopes started the third period with 1:57 seconds of power play time but like their last outing with the man-advantage could not find the back of the net.
The Brahmas frustrated Odessa throughout the night by clogging the neutral zone, not allowing the Jacks to get a sustained rush with possession. Thus making it easier for Lone Star net-minder Harrison Feeney to keep the Jackalopes off the board.
Jackalopes goaltender CJ Hapward made 17 saves on the evening as the Jackalopes came away with a split against the Brahmas. Lone Star entered Saturday’s contest riding a five-game winless streak.
For the Jackalopes, though the loss drops them to 3-5-1 on the season, there were positives to take away. The penalty kill continued to be strong as it did not allow a goal against all weekend. In addition, the Jackalopes top line continued to look strong.
Despite the loss, the Jackalopes still maintained their fourth-place position in the Southern Division standings.
Odessa will have two weeks off to start the month of October to rest a recuperate before traveling back to North Richland Hills for another two-game series against the Brahmas on October 19 and 20. The start time for both games are set for 7:30 pm.
