Mudbugs Edge Jackalopes, 4-2

Shreveport, LA – Kieran Durgan’s power play goal halfway through the third period turned out to be the decider as the Odessa Jackalopes (9-9-1-1) were edged out by the Shreveport Mudbugs (13-4-1-1) at the Hirsch Coliseum, 4-2, on Friday night. This was the first game between the two squads in Shreveport this season.

The Mudbugs got off to a quick start as Zachary Faremouth knuckled one past Brett Epp on the high glove side for the 1-0 lead only 2:40 into the game. It was the quickest goal Odessa has given up this season.

Shreveport would net one more after starting the second period on a power play. Gueorgui Feduolov planted himself on the back door and tipped a pass from Dominick Procopio past Epp for the 2-0 advantage.

The Mudbugs received a double minor for a high sticking that led to a Jackalopes power play goal. Lucas Andersson blasted a drive towards through traffic to beat Gustavs Grigals and claw the Jacks back within 1.

Blake Bride was able to tie the game up for Odessa after a Mudbugs shot was blocked by Zach Heintz 7:52 into the third period. Heintz stopped a Mudbugs drive and was off to the races with Bride coming in on the far side for a tap in on a beautiful 2-on-0 breakaway for the Jackalopes.

Almost five minutes later, Shreveport took the lead once again, and for the final time. Kieran Durgan shot a one-timer from right in front of the net on the left side of the crease as the Mudbugs netted their eventual game-winner on the power play. Jacob Holmers added an empty netter to seal the deal with 1.3 seconds remaining in regulation.

Brett Epp made 38 saves on the night, while his counterpart stonewalled 38 of his own. The Mudbugs take over control of first in the South, while the Jackalopes are now tied with the Corpus Christi IceRays for fourth.

Jackalopes and Mudbugs finish off the weekend Saturday night at 7:11 pm as Odessa looks for redemption in Shreveport.
