Jacks Salvage Week of Games with Huge Win at Amarillo on Sunday

Odessa, TX – After falling to the Wichita Falls Wildcats on Tuesday and Friday Odessa looked to salvage the week with a win Sunday against the Amarillo Bulls. The Amarillo Civic Center hadn’t been friendly to Odessa in the past; the Jacks had never won a regular-season game in Amarillo in team history (2011). That all changed when Odessa downed the last-place Bulls, 2-1, Sunday night at the ACC. Hampus Sjodahl got the scoring going for Odessa when he buried a feed from Gray Marr past Bulls goaltender Anton Martinsson on a 3-on-1. After Amarillo pumped 26 shots on net in the second and tied the game 1-1, Zach Zech (7) redirected a shot from Drew McLean past Martinsson at 17:15 of the third to give the Jacks all the offense they needed to earn the two points. Before Sunday, Odessa’s only win at Amarillo Civic Center in team history came in the 2012 postseason when Connor Hellebuyck backstopped Odessa to a 5-1 win. Dean Shatzer was sensational for Odessa Sunday, stopping 42 of the 43 shots he faced to pick up his fourth win of the year (4-5-1).

Hellebuyck called up to Winnipeg (NHL)

Former Jackalope’ goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been recalled to the Winnipeg Jets (NHL). Hellebuyck appeared in 53 games for Odessa in 2011-12, leading the Jacks to its lone post-season appearance, while going 26-21-8 with a 2.49 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage. After Odessa, Hellebuyck went on to play two seasons at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell (NCAA D1) and was drafted by the Jets in the fifth round of the 2012 NHL Draft.  At Umass-Lowell, Hellebuyck led the River Hawks to a Hockey East Conference title, and their first Frozen Four appearance, while ending his season with a 20-3-0 record, .952 save percentage, and 1.37 goals-against average.

Jacks trade defenseman Meininger to Amarillo, release forward Zach Main

The Jacks made two roster moves last Friday, shipping defenseman Matt Meininger to the rival Amarillo Bulls for future considerations and granting the release of forward Zach Main. Meininger, 19, appeared in nine games for Odessa, accumulating zero points with a +2 rating. Center Zach Main, 19, appeared in 16 games for Odessa, racking up three points (1 goal, 2 assists).

Action packed weekend of promotions

The Odessa Jackalopes, in observance of prostate cancer awareness month, will wear specialty Movember Jerseys both games this weekend. The Jacks will auction off the sweaters on three different platforms. Facebook, between the first and second intermission of both games and following Saturday’s game. Friday is also the Jacks Black Friday giveaway game, which includes five youth bikes. Saturday there will be a Cruise Giveaway, for two, auctioned off after the game.
