JACKS HANG ON IN 1-0 THRILLER
Hellebuyck earns first shutout of the year in victory.
WENATCHEE, WA– In the final game of a ten-day, four-game road trip, the Odessa Jackalopes came away winners in a nailbiting 1-0 decision over the Wenatchee Wild at Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee, WA on Saturday night. With the victory, the Jacks improved to 4-5-2 on the season, good for fourth place in the NAHL’s South Division alongside the Corpus Christi IceRays with 10 points on the season.
The game’s only goal came midway through the first period when a Tyler Minx shot from the left point was redirected in front of Wenatchee goaltender Greg Lewis by Wille Faust for the Stillwater, MN native’s fourth goal and sixth point of the season to put the Jacks up 1-0. Faust’s point moves him into a tie with Seldon Taylor for the team lead in goals and into a tie with three other Jackalopes for the tem lead in points.
Jacks goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was terrific in his eighth start of the season, stopping all 31 shots he faced to earn his first shutout of 2011-12. The Commerce, MI native made several critical saves down the stretch in the second and third periods including a breakaway stop on Wenatchee forward Trevor Stewart to preserve the victory for Odessa.
After nearly two weeks on the road in Alaska and Washington, the Jacks return to west Texas Sunday afternoon to prepare for a four game homestand that gets underway Thursday, October 20 against the New Mexico Mustangs at 7:05 at the Ector County Coliseum.
The Odessa Jackalopes celebrate their 15th Anniversary in 2011-12 and drop the puck on their inaugural campaign as a member of the North American Hockey League.
