Shreveport, LA – Zac Herrmann broke through late for the Odessa Jackalopes (28-19-3-2), but it was the Shreveport Mudbugs (39-9-3-2) who beat the Jacks 5-1. The Jacks are now forced to wait another day before they clinch their spot in the playoffs.
The Mudbugs got on the board first as Gueorgui Feduolov beats Odessa’s CJ Hapward for the 1-0 lead only 5:14 into the first frame. Shreveport would get two more before the period ended to take the 3-0 lead after the first 20 minutes.
Alex Camarre came on in relief at the start of the second, and gave his team a chance to work it’s way back into the game. On their only power play haflway through the third period, Zac Herrmann wristed a shot from the left circle past a screened Jaxon Castor for the first goal against Shreveport since the third period of the November 17th game.
Jordan Fader iced the game with 33 seconds left on an empty netter, and Brendan VanSwededn added his second of the contest with only 4 seconds remaining to down the Jacks.
CJ Hapward made 8 saves, but gave up all three goals in the first period before Alex Camarre finished the contest with 19 stops of his own. Jaxon Castor stopped 25 shots the Jackalopes fed on net for the second time this year.
Odessa and Shreveport finish off their season series in Shreveport tomorrow night with a 7:11 pm start as the Jacks look to clinch their spot in the 2018 NAHL South Division postseason.
