Jackalopes Acquire Carballo from Aberdeen

Odessa, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes are pleased to announce the acquisition of forward, Ricky Carballo, to the team on Monday. As part of the deal with the Aberdeen Wings, Odessa has sent Evan Rochowiak in return.

Carballo is a former south division star, racking up 46 points (20-26-46) over the course of only 50 games last season for the Wichita Falls Wildcats. This season, Carballo hasn’t gotten off to the same start, but still has 11 points (2-9-11) over 20 games for the Wings.

“I like it a lot. I like the way he coaches,” proclaims Carballo. “He’s a very offensive coach, so I think that fits very well to my style of play. I think I’ll fit in well.”

Standing at 5-foot-10, 185-pounds, Carballo is a player who has a great shot, but isn’t afraid to get in front of the net to the dirty areas. That skill set will help fill a hole the Jacks have had by providing a net-front presence to screen the goalie and collect rebounds.

“He wants to score goals in the blue paint. He’s going to have to go to the net hard,” explains Head Coach Greg Gatto. “He hasn’t had a great start to the season, so he’s going to be looking to redeem himself.”

The ’97 birth year hails from Keller, Texas and is ecstatic he gets to come and play for a team in his home state again.

“I think it’s awesome that my parents can come down and watch me,” said Carballo. “I’m trying to build off last year’s success and do better in Odessa.”

Carballo will join the Jackalopes on Tuesday for practice, and will be inserted in the lineup this weekend.
