With the 2016-17 season, Gary Astalos enters his second year as Jackalopes Head Scout. Gary is the head coach of the Adrian College Bulldogs' American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I men's hockey program.
Astalos last season served as the head coach and director of hockey operations for the Kingsville Kings, a South Division member of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League in Ontario, Canada. He led the Kings to a 39-3 record and they won the division title by 10 points. He also was named the GMHL All-Star Game head coach and was a 2016 Russell Cup finalist.
For two years from 2013-15, Astalos was the head coach and general manager of the GMHL Sequin Huskies. He led Sequin to a 73-8-4 record and the 2015 GMHL Russell Cup Finals. He was voted the 2014 GMHL Coach of the Year after leading the Huskies to the league's regular-season title. He coached in two all-star games.
Astalos received a bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in management from Eastern Michigan University in 2012. He was a team captain and most valuable player at Eastern Michigan. He earned All-Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League accolades and an invitation to the USA Hockey Evaluation Camp. He also represented EMU at the ACHA D-1 All-Star Game.
Astalos played his junior hockey for the Missoula Maulers of the American West Hockey League and the Kenai River Brown Bears out of the North American Hockey League.
