Comeback Falls Short for Odessa

Odessa, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes (23-14-3-2) couldn’t complete the comeback, as the Amarillo Bulls (15-17-4-3) finished them off 4-3 on Thursday night. The matchup was the first of three on the weekend at the Jack Shack.

The Jackalopes took the first lead of the game 6:45 into the contest. Jared Christy spun and fired a shot towards the net that Jason Grande made a save on. With the puck laying in the crease, Petr Miko got a stick on it and beat Grande across the end line for the 1-0 lead.

Amarillo could get two back on two broken plays. The first came three minutes later when Matt Brown cut in front of the net, getting tripped and falling into the goaltender, allowing Amarillo an odd man rush where they would score before Brown could get back. The second would come on a rebound for Austin O’Rouke, who has been a Jacks killer over the past couple years.

Amarillo would head to their first power play early in the second period, and Cameron Bartkoski netted one in his first game back since December 17th.

Jackalopes would bring themselves back within one as Miko scored his second of the contest. An odd-man rush started by Zac Herrmann, as he saucered a pass over the stick of the defender for a Miko one-timer.

A questionable penalty led to another Amarillo power play, as Jared Domin netted the eventual game-winner early in the third.

The Jackalopes fought back late, as Evan Somoza stood in the crease and kept jamming away until he put it past Grande to bring the deficit to one with under four minutes remaining. The game would end with that score, as the Jacks couldn’t finish the comeback

Alex Camarre stopped 20 shots in the contest while taking the loss. His counterpart, Jason Grande, made a remarkable 44 saves to earn the win.

The Jacks return to action tomorrow night when they host the Bulls for game two of three on the weekend.
