Carreras’s hat trick leads Odessa past Amarillo, 7-4

Odessa, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes used an Eric Carreras hat trick and season-high seven goals to beat the Amarillo Bulls, 7-4, Friday night at Ector County Coliseum. Thursday and Friday's wins were the first back-to-back W's against Amarillo in team history (2011).

After falling into an early one-goal hole, just like last night, Odessa didn’t wait until the third period to score four goals. They instead did it all in the first, exploding for four unanswered tallies. Eric Carreras (6) tied the game at 4:30 of the first, on a perfect feed from Brandon Tucker. After connecting once, Tucker and Carreras (6) used the formula again teaming up at 11:53 for Carreras’s (7) second of the game, to give the Jacks a 2-1 lead. Hampus Sjodahl extended the Jackalopes advantage at 12:59 and Zach Zech completed the four-goal first with a wrap-around tally at 13:41.

In the second, Odessa followed up its monster first with two more goals, including Carreras's hat-trick sealing, team-leading eighth of the year. It started with Sjodahl 1:46, on a perfect tick-tack-toe from Gray Marr and Derek Brown. Carreras and Tucker then teamed up for their third of the game to give Odessa a commanding 6-1 lead. Amarillo made it interesting when George Mika scored on the power play at 9:46 and Nicholas Santoro ripped a shot past Jacks goaltender' Dean Shatzer right before the end of the period at 19:02, to make 6-3.

The Bulls made it really interesting in the third when Joey Molinaro got Amarillo back within two on the power play at 6:20, but Oliver Celec put a stamp on the Jacks victory when he went top shelf over the shoulder of Jacob Weatherly to make it 7-4 at 16:56.

The Jacks top point scorer' Tucker collected three points (three assists) on Friday and was the key facilitator to all three Carreras goals.

Dean Shatzer earned the win, making 31 saves on 35 shots, moves to 2-4-0 on the season and 1-0-0 at home. On the other end, Jacob Weatherly made 30 saves on 37 shots en route to his fourth loss and an a 0-4-0 record.
